In construction today, MPX Pecém II thermoelectric power plant is located in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante (CE). Just like Energia Pecém, Pecém II is a coal-fueled power plant. Together, these two plants will increase power production in Ceará by 90%.

Pecém II, a wholly owned MPX venture, will have capacity to produce up to 360 MW. By trading 276 average MW at the new energy auction A-5 held in September 2008, UTE Pecém II  has assured approximately R$ 221.9 million (base: March/2009) fixed earnings indexed by the IPCA, for  15 years, as of  2013.

With its Installation License issued by State of Ceará Superintendency of the Environment (Semace) all plant key pieces of equipment have been ensured.

Aiming at local labor development for the Itaqui, Pecém and Parnaíba power plants, in association with well known teaching institutions MPX has already qualified over 2, 200 people in the states where the company is doing business.

In June 2011, Pecém II started to offer qualification courses in the areas of Civil Construction, Industrial Mechanics and Industrial Welding. In that year, 83 students were qualified. In 2012, 120 people were graduated in Hairdressing, Manicure, Culinary and Basic Secretarial courses promoted by the plant, in partnership with Centec.

Follow-up the progress of the works at UTE Pecém II
